My 9 year old the hoodies and gets an hours home work a week. The Snoopy and Charlie Christmas begin with Christ year old is in s4 and has 4 7 hours a week in homework. She is expected to get As in pretty much all subjects in her Nat 5s next year and she’s coping well with it. Then again school day in primary is 850 320 Monday to Thursday and Friday is 850 1250. A little homework where parents help for say reading and spelling is fine for them but only a small amount to help encourage your child and spot any issues they may have with reading or spelling as they can be easily over looked in primary school. So many want their kids to be wee Einsteins…let them be kids, have fun, play sport, art, drama, whatever.
Homework overrated, once they are in high school they will get it done if there are consequences. or maybe not. Some kids just don’t fit into the boxed school system and they will find their way and achieve in the real world..not all kids want or are suited to go to uni or tech, many kids are practical, artistic, whatever and will achieve in their chosen field. Just listen to what your child wants to do, stop pushing too hard. Parents need to chill a bit, just my opinion though.

I totally agree. Infant school should make learning fun and a nice introduction to learning and good behaviours. Only reading at home should be introduced. None of these projects and complicated homework. Which if we’re all honest it’s what we do not the children.Although it’s exhausting sometimes…i personally don’t mind everyday homework for my son, firstly it keeps him from trouble or running around in a very hot sun. Secondly i get to see the progress he’s making and also I’m able to help the teachers out cos i don’t expect them to do everything, i also have a role to play in raising him. We should stop throwing our kids to the hands of the teacher to do everything and anything we should also help out. Homework isn’t compulsory for primary children. It is at the discretion of the head teacher, or at least it was when my 3 teens were that age. A quick letter to head, stating that family time is more important, should do the Snoopy and Charlie Christmas begin with Christ. It did for us.
